Typical Workday:
As a Software Developer Intern, you will play a critical role in the development of web apps aimed at identifying and mitigating hate speech online. You will work closely with our development team to design, build, and deploy web applications, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies and methodologies.

pipikwan pêhtâkwan (pee-pee-gwan pee-tah-gwan) primarily serves Indigenous businesses, organizations and communities to bring their voices to the mainstream media and general public, while ensuring Indigenous Peoples maintain ownership of their initiatives and stories.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain web applications using Python and Django for the backend, and JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks like React or Angular for the frontend.
- Work with PostgreSQL for database management.
- Collaborate with the team to design, develop, and deploy a browser extension for hate speech detection.
- Implement and manage REST APIs to integrate with our machine learning models.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure the highest code quality.
- Work in an agile development environment, engaging in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a minimum completion of the 3rd year.
- Proficiency in Full Stack Development, including experience with Python and Django for the backend, and TypeScript/JavaScript for the frontend.
- Strong understanding of web development principles and web application architecture.
- Experience with deployment processes and tools (e.g., AWS, Docker).
- Knowledge of handling REST APIs and integrating them with web applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Data Science, Machine Learning, and Langchain.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of agile software development practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD).
- Experience with version control systems like Git.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Experience with machine learning libraries such as Langchain, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn.
- Understanding of web security principles to protect user data and ensure secure communication.
- Ability to design intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.
