Marlena Bullee

Engagement Intern

Marlena Bullee is a Nehiyaw woman with ancestral roots to northern Alberta. She is a member of Bigstone Cree Nation with connection being to her late grandfather Elmer Cardinal. She lives in Mohkinstsis (Calgary), Treaty 7 territory.

Marlena is pursuing an Indigenous Bachelor of Social Work degree at Yellowhead Tribal College. She believes that as an Indigenous person and being called to work with Indigenous communities, it is very important that Indigenous worldviews, knowledge systems, and values be the foundation to her practice and way of being. Working out in the community Marlena has been using her understanding of Western and Indigenous worldviews to help strengthen relations and start to break down the barriers that are often faced when these worldviews meet.

Marlena cherishes family and all her relations, being mindful of relational accountability to each other. She does her best to strengthen those relations through respect, honesty, and kimma pi pitsin (kindness/compassion).

Marlena enjoys being surrounded by, and basking in the medicines of the natural world, often going to the mountains to disconnect from the fast life in the city and reconnect with herself and all her relations.
