Role Introduction

Reporting to the Communications Director and supporting the Communications Advisor, the Social Media Intern will work remotely while collaboratively contributing to meaningful work with our clients.

The guided work may include developing social media editorial calendars, drafting social media strategies, obtaining social media content at events, social media research and monitoring, and working with project leads to ensure client expectations are met and delivered in a timely manner.

The Social Media Intern is organized, detail-oriented, and creative. They will have a broad knowledge of different social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Linkedin, additional platforms an asset) and how they can be used to interact with key audiences. Experience creating content in Canva or a similar program is an asset. Experience or skills in setting up and advising on ads would also be an asset.

The position will work remotely with daily supervision and development including regular video-conference meetings, ongoing virtual team messaging/chat tools, emails, and telephone calls.

Typical Workday

  • Drafting engaging and creative social media content for project leads in support of client work.
  • Providing input and feedback to the creative team and project leads for social media asset development.
  • Providing strategic social media guidance to project leads.
  • Brainstorming creative social media approaches and campaigns for projects.
  • Attending project meetings.
  • Supporting the pipikwan pêhtâkwan team with their social media channels, strategy, posts and profile as needed.
  • Gathering social media analytics and drafting campaign/project reports.

Qualifications

  • A certificate in social media
  • Experience in a social media-related role
  • Education and practical knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of marketing, public relations, graphic design, and business communications.

Additional Information

As this agency is focused on working with Indigenous communities, preference will be given to Indigenous or persons of colour or people with extensive experience working with Indigenous communities.
