Role Introduction

Reporting to Communications Manager, the Media Relations Intern will work remotely while collaboratively contributing to meaningful work with our clients.
The guided work may include drafting advisories and press releases, drafting crisis and media relations strategies and plans necessary, planning media events and working with leadership to ensure client expectations are met and delivered in a timely manner. The Media Relations Intern is a strong writer and has some experience with public relations, media relations and communications.
The position will be working remotely with daily supervision and development including regular video-conference meetings, ongoing virtual team messaging/chat tools, emails and telephone calls.

Typical Workday

  • Write and edit copy including, but not limited to presentations, media advisories, news releases, key messaging, speeches and other public relations and communication materials.
  • Support media relations, including drafting and distributing releases, responding to media inquiries as needed, and building and maintaining media kits.
  • Assist with special events, media announcements and related public-relations activities.
  • Help develop strategic and consistent communication with stakeholders.
  • Work with the graphic design team on projects as needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • In progress of completing a degree or certification in communications, journalism, English, or business.
  • Education and practical knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of marketing, public relations, graphic design, and business communications.

Additional Information

As this agency is focused on working with Indigenous communities, preference will be given to Indigenous or persons of colour or people with extensive experience working with Indigenous communities.

Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
